How to Convert AVIF to PNG Without Losing Transparency

Add AVIF files, choose one PNG output profile, then save the completed results. Processing stays in the current browser tab.

  1. 01

    Choose AVIF Images

Add still AVIF files individually, select a folder, or drop a batch into the page. The browser decodes each supported file locally.

  2. 02

    Choose a Maximum Dimension

Keep the original dimensions or select a maximum size for a smaller PNG derivative. PNG output remains lossless at the chosen dimensions.

  3. 03

Download PNG Files or a ZIP

Review the decoded dimensions, download PNG files one at a time, or save all completed results in a ZIP archive.

When Should You Convert AVIF to PNG?

PNG is useful when an editor, design tool, documentation system, or archive requires a lossless raster format with predictable transparency support. Converting AVIF to PNG creates a widely supported working copy.

PNG files are often larger than AVIF, especially for photographs. Use PNG as an editing or compatibility derivative and keep AVIF for delivery when the target environment supports it.

Preserving AVIF Transparency in PNG

PNG supports an alpha channel, so transparent AVIF pixels can remain transparent in the decoded PNG result. Inspect semi-transparent edges in the application where the file will be used.

The conversion preserves decoded pixels at the selected dimensions, but it does not preserve the original AVIF compression, metadata, or animation.

Why PNG Output Can Be Larger

PNG uses lossless compression and is not designed to minimize photographic delivery size. A large PNG is expected when the source contains detailed photos or gradients.

Choose a maximum dimension for a practical working copy, or keep the AVIF source for web delivery and use PNG only where compatibility or editing requires it.

Questions answered

AVIF to PNG Converter FAQ

Practical answers about supported files, privacy, quality, and what the browser-based converter does with your images.

Does AVIF to PNG conversion preserve transparency?

Yes when the source AVIF contains an alpha channel. PNG supports transparency, though you should inspect edge pixels in the target editor or design tool.

Is AVIF to PNG lossless?

The PNG encoding is lossless for the decoded pixels at the selected dimensions. It cannot restore detail already lost in a lossy AVIF source.

Are AVIF files uploaded during PNG conversion?

No. Decoding and PNG creation run locally in the browser tab without uploading the selected files.

Can I convert multiple AVIF files to PNG?

Yes. Select a group or folder, then download completed PNG files individually or together as a ZIP.
